I thought I would write more about what an "upconverting" dvd player is. But then, I found this nice <a rel='nofollow' href='http://www.connectedhomemag.com/Visual/Articles/Index.cfm?ArticleID=50124'>article</a> that explains what it is.

In the last two decades, the portable storage for computers has changed a lot. From flopy disks to cd roms to dvds and usb pen drives. If it's just data, it's possible to keep copying it to the newer formats. However, if that data happens to be a multi-media asset like music or video, then unless you buy a new format, you won't get all the benefits of the latest technology. Well, that's where this up-converting dvd player comes into picture (no pun intended)!
